Burning Sky
The result of a journal prompt
I’ve begun keeping a journal of just random prompts that I’ve found on Pinterest, and this morning I chose the prompt: ‘Write a poem in which the last word of one line becomes the first word of the next’.
This is what I came up with:
Burning Sky
Rachel M. East
A once beautiful sky,
Sky now caught a flame.
Flames that are orange.
Orange overpowers the rain.
Raining down ash,
Ash clogs in my throat.
Throats scream for help,
Help sends a note.
Note says, ‘it’s over.
Over and done.
Done is the Earth;
Earth burned by the sun.
Sun is too strong.’
Strong smoke clouds my lungs.
Lungs have no more breath,
Breath all used up in a song.
Songs sung all about;
About mourning times.
Time seems to slow
Slowly burning the sky.

BROOOOO THE CHILLS
